Tablets aren't really new - yet they have just recently really picked up steam in the market, with the introduction of the iPad putting an eye on the area of tech. A market once dominated by iPads now features many competitors, many on par with, if not better, than the iPad.
The iPad is over 10" making it a required 2 hands to hold and use. It's a bit clunky - which makes the quest for a 7" tablet all the more fun. 7" tablets are much cheaper and even offer crisper picture in HD quality. Ranging from $100 to $300 - you really can't go wrong with a 7". Now which one is the best?
The Nexus 7 is basically a big Nexus Phone - running on Android Jellybean. It's a 7" screen (obviously) with super crisp 1280x800 resolution - making the screen so crisp it's refreshing. HD playback (videos) is some of the sharpest I have ever seen on a tablet, period.
Navigating it's crisp menu with fluent smooth strokes of the finger, as screens transition like butter - because of a feature that allows it to do so. Swiping, pinching, throwing, dragging, is all smooth as butter. No lag as you flow screen by screen at the speed of light.
The first versions were available in 8GB and 16GB, which isn't much. But now a 32GB and 64GB version are available - which is real nice considering this device is Wi-Fi only - so you will be downloading many things. You will want that space.
The tablet features a SUPER fast Tegra-3 processor - dual core. Can you believe that? Some peoples computers don't even have a dual core processor! This is lightning fast tech in a 7" hand sized screen - for less than $200. It's crazy.
Since it is by Google - it is loaded with tons of Google services, which all luckily are really good. GMAIL, Calendar, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google music, etc. Any Google Web app you have ever used, is in a handy dandy really smooth Android App version as well. You better believe that for the Google fanatic who uses every service, you can sync up and get locked in just like you would from your PC. This is what makes this tablet so darn cool.
It's a slick experience and all of this on smaller 7" screen with super crisp HD. You really can't go wrong with this tablet - it is THE BEST 7" on the market, if not the best tablet period.

Okay, I'm sure that a number of you are already rolling your eyes and shouting something about distracted driving, which is a genuine concern. I don't see how the 7-inch Nexus 7 could be any more of a distraction than the 7-inch Magellan RoadMate 9055-LM that I recently reviewed. The Nexus 7's lack of an always-on data connection should remove the temptation to check your e-mail, but, yes, slapping a tablet onto your dashboard will require quite a bit of self-control on your part to resist undue distraction. With that caveat in mind, let's get started.
Now, it's time for the fun part: picking your dashboard apps! Depending on your needs, there are apps for navigation, audio playback, and a number of other functions that could come in handy behind the wheel of a car.
The built-in Google Maps app seems like the obvious navigation choice thanks to its newfound ability to cache map data for offline use. However, it does have its drawbacks. For starters, you can only plan a trip while connected to the Internet. Once you're under way, Google Maps can continue routing and even handle simple rerouting of missed turns, but you'll need to be in range of a Wi-Fi hot spot at the beginning of every trip, somewhat limiting the usefulness of this app.

A Google spokeswoman said Friday that the 16GB version selling for $249 would come back soon to Google Play, but didn't indicate a date. It wasn't immediately clear when the site began re-selling it, and Google didn't respond to a request to comment. The Google Play site says it will take three to five business days to deliver the 16GB version.
The 8 GB version, selling for $199, has been available on Google Play since the Nexus 7 went on sale July 13. In addition to shortages on Google Play, the 16GB version is still listed as on "back order" at GameStop, and for sale "in store only" with a special order at Staples. Various retailers said they had trouble meeting demand for the larger-capacity Nexus 7 nearly from the start of sales.
Gabe Donnini, a data solutions engineer for Chitika Insights, said Google's restock of the 16 GB version didn't come as a surprise. Chitika runs an online advertising network and has been providing monthly measurements of Web usage with various tablet computers in North America.
Chitika found that when the Nexus 7 was released, the tablet "experienced a jump in [Web] usage that has not been seen outside of the iPad."
The Nexus 7 is Google's first foray into selling a tablet under its own brand. It's currently available for pre-order from Google Play, the company's online store, with customer deliveries expected to begin next week. It costs $199 for a model with eight gigabytes of storage, same as the Kindle, or $249 for 16 gigabytes.
The device is manufactured by Taiwan-based Asustek, and Google chose its partner wisely. Asus makes some of the prettiest tablets and personal computers this side of Apple, and the Nexus 7 is as attractive and smooth as the Kindle Fire is chunky and clunky.
At 7.8 inches tall and 4.7 inches wide, the Nexus 7 is compact enough to slide into a jacket pocket. A rubbery, textured back makes it easy to grip. Like the Kindle Fire, it works only over a Wi-Fi connection; while the screens are the same size, the Nexus 7's has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, compared to the Kindle Fire's 1024 x 600.
Google pretty clearly seems to be going after Amazon with the way it's structured the out-of-the-box Nexus 7 experience. The tablet comes with a full-screen interactive view of your "library" content on its main home screen; touching the widget brings up all of your book, movie, TV, and magazine purchases.
One screen over, you have widgets showing recommended media content and applications in the Google Play Store, based on both your own friends' pluses (assuming you use Google Plus) and what's popular with "similar users."
Look, for all its drawbacks, where Amazon succeeded with its Kindle Fire was in making the device dead-simple to use: Anyone, whether geek or technophobe, could pick up the product and figure out how to view and buy content at a second's glance. The Nexus 7 accomplishes the same kind of goal.
Here's the difference, though: Amazon created a locked-down ecosystem built around its e-commerce goals. Google made e-commerce a core part of the default Nexus 7 setup -- but it's a part you can just as easily move beyond.

The iPad far exceeds other tablets in terms of total Web usage, accounting for 91% of tablet-based Web traffic. Among all the other tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab has the largest share, followed in order by the Acer Iconia, the Barnes & Noble Nook, the Toshiba Thrive, the Asus Transformer, the BlackBerry PlayBook, Amazon's Kindle Fire, the Motorola Xoom, and then the Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 accounted for 0.33% of the Web usage by non-iPad tablets during the week of July 16 to 22, Chitika said.
"I'd look for the Nexus 7 to establish a leading presence among Android-powered tablets by the end of 2012," Donnini added in an email.
